Take Time for You

My life is too busy.  Plain and simple.  I thought that once my children were grown I would be able to live a more simple life without all the busyness.  Not so!

I am working part-time away from home, run a home business, plus attend college full-time.  Not to mention my obligations at church and homemaking responsibilities!  And just because your kids move out of your house, doesn't mean they are out of your life!  They still need help and guidance and "favors" that pop up once in a while.

My point is, no matter what stage of life you are at, you will have to fight busyness and the "tyranny of the urgent".  Just because you are facing an empty nest doesn't mean you will have all the time in the world and you will have to continue to learn to say "no" to things that steal your time...even if they are good things!

This week, as I was feeling overwhelmed, I took a look at my schedule.  I needed to see what I could do to rid myself of that stressful, hectic feeling that a friend of mine used to call "hecticity".
Feeling this kind of constant stress is not healthy.  There were many things that I could not cut out of my life right now if I wanted to meet my goals, but there were many commitments I could let go for this "season" of my life.

If you are feeling overwhelmed with your daily life, I encourage you to simplify.  Find three activities that you could give up to allow time for you to find some breathing room.  I also encourage you to do something good for yourself, no matter how busy you are.  Actually REST on the Sabbath and see how rejuvenated you will feel the next week.  Take time to read a book just for fun or watch your favorite TV show without interruption.  Whatever it takes to relieve your stress, do it this week!
