Seven
Lifestyle Goals for Healthy Living
1. Get regular physical
activity
--Aim for 30-60 minutes
of moderate intensity physical activity
on most, preferably all days of the
week.
--Walking is the ideal
exercise. It’s inexpensive, safe and fun!
Nearly everyone can
do it. You can set your own speed and
you can stop when you
want.
2.
Get adequate rest daily.
--People with the best
health and longevity get between 5 & 7
hours of sleep daily.
--Taking time for daily
relaxation and recreation is also helpful
to
the body and
mind.
3.
Eat more plant foods
--Aim for at least 5(up
to 9 is recommended) servings of fruits and
vegetables daily.
--Limit fatty meats
and high cholesterol foods.
--Peas, beans and soy
foods are good sources of plant proteins.
4.
Eat more whole-grain breads and cereals
--Aim for at least 3
servings of whole-grains daily (including
brown rice and oatmeal).
--Limit high refined
cereals such as white bread, pastry, white
rice,
sugary cereals.
--Eat a good breakfast
packed with high-fiber foods.
5.
Choose healthy fats
--Choose unhydrogenated
vegetable oils in place of animal and
solid fats such as hard stick
margarine and shortening.
--Eat at least 1 serving
of nuts daily (1 oz of nuts or 2
tablespoons
of peanut or almond butter).
--Eat one serving of
foods high in n-3 fatty acids daily such as
flax
meal or walnuts 1-2
times per week.
6.
Drink more water
--Rinse out your
insides by drinking more water.
--Lighten your body’s
metabolic load and increase circulation by
drinking
plenty of water......at least eight glasses
per day.
7.
Take time for spiritual growth
--The ultimate lifestyle
includes not just health and fitness; it
also
includes spiritual
growth. Trust in God supplies a missing
piece
in our lives. It
brings quality, fulfillment, and hope for
the
future.
--Take some time to step
back and think about what is truly
important to you.
--Love, faith and hope
are health enhancing and they bring
rewards that endure.
Every breath you take is a miracle. Every
morning is a new start.
PLEDGE: It is my desire to
incorporate these Seven Goals
for Healthful
Living
into my daily life and take the time
necessary to make health a personal priority
in my life.
